What to Expect from a Parent's Perspective

Something I have gained from being a part of the Let Me Shine program

I have loved being a part of the Let Me Shine program over the last 10 years. I feel like I have gained such a sense of community and belonging. Meeting parents of other kids that live in the surrounding neighborhoods and seeing familiar faces at drop off and pick up everyday. Let Me Shine offers an environment that is approachable for new parents dropping their kids off at school for the first time. Leaving your baby with new people can be very scary and Let Me Shine creates a welcoming environment with open communication and clear outlines of what your child's school day will be like. I have always felt like I could approach anyone on the staff with a question or a concern. They are willing to communicate with me and help work together for a plan or solution to address those concerns.

A Piece of Advice

A piece of advice I have for new families is to ask questions!  Ask questions of your child's teacher about what they are working on in class and how you can support that at home. Don't be afraid to ask your child's teacher to support what you are working on at home (ie: potty training, behavioral adjustments). You and your child's teacher are now a parenting team. WORK TOGETHER and COMMUNICATE.

One Thing Incoming Families Can Experience

I hope that incoming families can experience the joy that it is to see your child grow and experience new things in a safe and trusted environment. To know that when you drop your child off at Let Me Shine they will make new friends, be loved on, and learn to love others. That you can comfortably walk out that door and know your child is in good hands.
